Sapphire Engagement Ring Style Guide

Sapphire engagement rings have seen a significant jump in popularity in recent months after the news of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s engagement.  The Prince presented his betrothed with an heirloom sapphire engagement ring from his mother, Princess Diana.  And while awareness of sapphire engagement rings has increased since the announcement, the British royal family has a historic love affair with the sapphire.  Sapphires rest in many of the royal jewels including the Imperial State Crown and one of Her Majesty’s favorite items, the Prince Albert Brooch.

And while sapphires are the favorite gem of monarchs, a sapphire engagement ring is the perfect choice for all fiancés.

There are a number of design choices to select from when choosing a sapphire engagement ring.  Solitaire engagement rings feature a single sapphire center stone.  Solitaire settings are the simplest and most classic engagement ring design.

Like the solitaire setting, three-stone engagement rings are also timeless.  They offer more bang for your buck and cover more of the finger than a solitaire ring.  Three-stone sapphire engagement rings consist of a center sapphire flanked by two other gemstones, often diamonds or white sapphires.

A recent engagement ring trend is actually a vintage throwback.  The pave diamond halo trend is still going strong, and for good reason.  Small diamonds surrounding a sapphire can add a lot of sparkle to any stone and can make it look bigger.  The inclusion of pave diamonds creates a more romantic look, and this design can be very delicate and lovely.

One last tip:  Select your sapphire first.  Each of our sapphires is unique.  Fall in love with your sapphire, and then select a setting to highlight that stone.  It’ll make your setting selection easier, and you’ll end up creating a truly one-of-a-kind sapphire engagement ring.
